Cacao aka Chocolate Lowers Risk Of Heart Disease

In a recent study and statistics, one person in every 34 seconds dies of heart disease in America. In the Philippines, one person in every 7 minutes dies of the same complication. The complication is either caused by congenital complication or lifestyle. No one knows when a heart complication attacks.

There are many ways and remedies to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Aside from taking maintenance such as medicine and daily dose of exercise, heart diseases can now be prevented by drinking (raw) chocolate or cocoa stored in your fridge.

According to the study, moderate consumption of dark chocolate—which contains the highest concentration of cocoa by at least 60 percent and is considered better than the lighter cocoa—can lower risk of heart problems and can now be a good regimen in maintaining lower blood pressure. It is also believed that the magic of cocoa only happens when it is still unprocessed, organic and raw. The nutritional value of cocoa decreases if it is mixed or treated generally with other ingredients such as sugar, milk etc.
Theobroma cacao, which cacao or cocoa is derived, came from the Greek word "theos" (God) and "broma" (food) or "food the Gods." It was a famous plant in the old times because of its medicinal value. Cacao is only one of the 22 species of Theobroma. To make a differentiation, cacao is referred to as the plant itself including its bean while cocoa is the mashed or pulverized cacao bean that that yields cocoa or cacao powder. Other believed that the name cocoa was just a spelling mistake by early English merchants in reference to cacao itself.

Historical and medicinal accounts of cacao affirmed that it was a cure for some common ailments such as indigestion, fatigue, emaciation and serious ailments such as respiratory problem, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.

Moreover, Procyanidin and flavonol present in cocoa have an anti-oxidant effect that fight free radical in our body. The body needs to fight this free radical to fight ageing. If not medicated, this free radical would cause arteries and vein to harden and oxidize. Thus, free radicals will put the whole body system into submission. Oxidation can be compared to rust. If not prevented—by not eating fruits and vegetables thrice a day—it will oxidize our entire body that will finally lead to death.

Furthermore, eating chocolate or cocoa raises the vasodilation effect or widening of blood vessel that helps dilating the nerve and veins within our body allowing much oxygen to circulate in our system.

Hope you can include the right organic and unprocessed chocolate or cacao to your diet.
